St. Anne’s Altar Society Minutes

June 15, 2008

 

Present:  Mary Kaye Ruegg, Andrea Tamlyn, Sara Hill, Susan Massaway, Elizabeth Freedhof, and Denise Binger

The meeting was called to Order by Mary Kaye Ruegg.

Opening Prayer was given by Denise Binger.

The officers were introduced and email addresses were shared.

The Treasurer’s Report was given by Sara Hill.  As of 6/15/2008 we have $1,117.59 in the checking and $3,159.73 in the savings.  Discussion was held regarding the combining of the checking account for the Altar Society with the Church checking account and having a sub-account for all checks issued by the Altar Society.

Religious items sales.  Mrs. Ruegg informed us that Mrs. La Joice currently does the sale of these items and would like for someone to take over this task.  We will put an announcement in the bulletin to see who would be interested in taking over this position.

Goals for the Altar Society were discussed.  Father provided us with a list of items that he would like for us to try and accomplish.  The items on the list are:

1.     Youth input — We are going to ask the youth director to try and find a youth to be on the committee.  We would like their input into what we can do to help the youth in our parish.

2.     Do the Lions dinner as a fund raiser and a community service project.  We are going to ask Phyllis for her input into what was done in the past.

3.     Do fund raisers to donate money for the Adults we currently sponsor.  Sara Hill is going to put a poster together that we can use to solicit donation at all of our fund raising activities.

4.     Help to fund the education of our diocese seminarians.  We all agreed this was something we would like to continue to sponsor.

5.     Holy hour.  Susan Massaway is going to ask Father for further clarifications on this subject.

6.     Funeral Mass.  We would like to request a report from the funeral committee for our next meeting.  To see if they would like further assistance from us.

7.     Mentor/Mentee.  Each of us is going to ask two people to attend our next meeting so we can get input and expertise for the current members.

Committees for the Altar Society were discussed, and potential members of each committee were agreed upon to ask if they would be interested in helping with the committee.  It was agreed upon that each committee member would only be asked to help out with the committee once or twice a year.  The committees on the list are:

1.     Fund Raising

2.     Decorating

3.     Clean up

4.     Set up

5.     Food

6.     Publicity

7.     Funeral

8.     Youth liaison

9.     Hospitality

We brainstormed on different possible fund raising events.  The ideas on the list are:

1.     Lions dinner

2.     Summer raffle

3.     Chili supper

4.     Cake walk

5.     Parish-wide garage sale

6.     Christmas bazaar

7.     Formal dinner

8.     Floral percent for referrals

9.     Bake sales

10.  Cinnamon/Bread bake sale

The meetings date for the Altar Society meetings were set as the second Saturday of each month after Mass.
